Treadwall Information
Welcome to the EKU Treadwall!!
THIS IS FITNESS CLIMBING!!
What is it?
The Treadwall is like a treadmill for climbing. It is a continuous
surface that rotates as you climb. Using the wall is easy and not
scary. You're only ever a couple feet off the ground and can do
it without staff or a spotter.
Who is it for?
The Treadwall is a great addition to your fitness program. It promotes
a full body workout. Not just for climbers, anybody and everybody
should try it!
Can I do it alone?
Yes. It's just like a treadmill. Don't be afraid of it!! Ask staff
if you have any questions. They'll gladly help you out. Stop by
the climbing wall and ask staff there for tips or suggestions on
a workout! Read the card attached to the wall for more info on how
to use it and for a sample workout!
How is this a workout?
Try it and you'll see. It is an incredible tool for cardio, muscular
endurance, upper body strength, balance, core strength, and is amazing
for your back!
What experience/fitness
level do I need?
The Treadwall is for any and all fitness and experience levels.
The wall is adjustable in both angle and speed. Beginners or those
wishing to work on balance and an aerobic workout can set the wall
to lower angles, while those wanting a fun upper body workout can
set the wall to steeper angles.
How do I start/stop?
To start, step up and start climbing!! The red control knob adjusts
the speed. Stopping is easy. The wall is powered by gravity, so
when you step off it stops moving. You can also set the wall to
stop when you get close to the bottom by engaging the auto-stop
switch. For a more aerobic workout or to build endurance, switch
it to continuous and see how long you can stay on.
Can I keep a record of my
time?
You can track how far and how long you've been climbing by checking
the electronic display on the left. Push the reset button before
you start!
Do I need any special equipment?
No. Your normal workout wear is fine. Special climbing shoes are
beneficial though. You can check these out at the front desk. Gymnastic chalk
helps you hold on, and is available in a bag at the wall. You can
wear the belt around your waist if you choose! Please wipe the mat
with your towel if you spill chalk.
What else do I need to know?
Climbing on the Treadwall might be addictive, so keep in mind the
need to take rests and let your body recover. Be considerate of
others waiting to use the wall. Consider stretching or doing a cardio
warm up while waiting!!
